◆Meeting in Kyoto
◆Private viewing of Yuki's fabrics and artwork
If you are staying in the city, she may be able to meet near your hotel and open the van for a private textile viewing.
Step inside the van, touch the fabrics, and choose your favorites.
Inside the van, you may find:
• Yuki’s hand-dyed fabrics
• Unique textile pieces made in Kyoto
• New experimental fabrics
• Small works made from textile scraps
Every visit is a little different depending on what Yuki is currently working on.
Yuki isn’t just a guide at Kyoto Craft; she is also a textile artist who dyes fabrics and creates her own work.
Her fabrics and creations travel with her in a small Japanese kei van, affectionately nicknamed “Tofu.” Inside the van, you’ll find bolts of dyed fabric, finished pieces, and new experiments.
Yuki dyes her fabrics at traditional dyeing workshops in Kyoto and develops her designs in her own studio. From raw cloth to finished creations, she transports everything herself.
As an independent artist rather than a shop selling mass-produced textiles, turning part of her van into a small mobile shop simply made sense.
Another advantage of the van is that Yuki can immediately see how people respond to new fabrics and ideas.
Sometimes the van becomes a tiny textile shop on wheels, meeting visitors across Kyoto.
Yuki doesn’t mass-produce her work.
