The joy of making something with your own hands.
Conversations with local artists.
Spending a few hours together in a craft workshop offers families a kind of experience you simply don’t get from ordinary sightseeing.
This workshop is designed for everyone from children aged 5 to adults.
The colors you choose completely change the character of the finished piece, so each banner naturally reflects the personality of the person who made it.
Thanks to a special resist-dyeing technique, even young children can create something with a beautiful, polished finish.
The large workshop has a spacious, relaxed atmosphere, with an open feel and a courtyard where koi swim in the pond.
This isn’t a venue set up just for tourist workshops. It is a real working dye studio, and also the artisan’s home. Rihei, the fourth-generation artisan of the dye house, will guide you through the process himself.

This is a hands-on metalworking workshop for ages 13 and up.
It is best suited to people who already enjoy making things and are comfortable spending several hours concentrating on a project.
This is not a casual craft activity, and it won’t be the right fit for everyone.
By the end, you’ll have a substantial, one-of-a-kind piece that can stay with you for years.
From a child’s bedroom door to a desk in a future office, your personalized metal nameplate can stay with you for a lifetime.
Sensei Yumi’s small studio is packed with tools and machines.
You’ll learn how to use them yourself, while having plenty of freedom to decide what your finished piece will look like.
Yumi is a Kyoto-based metal artist.
Over the years, she has created pieces that mark important moments in people’s lives — from special rings for couples to birthday gifts for loved ones.
For families visiting Japan, she’ll help you create something personal that carries the memory of your trip home with you.
