Let me introduce my mother from a daughter’s perspective.
She came to Kyoto for university, built her life here, and raised my sister and me while working. Even when she was busy as a mother, she quietly kept learning — taking classes in handicrafts, calligraphy, and cooking simply because she loved them.
Being Japanese, she modestly downplays her skill, but I don’t think that’s true. Whenever my foreign friends visit Kyoto and spend time with her, they always leave delighted. Her warmth, her curiosity, and her steady hands seem to draw people in.
I once told her that since she couldn’t study abroad when she was young, she could welcome people from overseas instead — and she laughed, realizing she had so many stories and skills to share.
My mother now enjoys her days at home, doing what she loves and spending time with friends.
I hope you’ll experience the gentle, homely atmosphere of her world.
